System requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Disk space: ~150 MB for the application
  • Microsoft Office: Not required. ReportForge works with .xlsx files directly — you do not need Excel or Microsoft 365 installed.
  • Runtime: .NET 8 is bundled with the installer. No separate download needed.

Download and install

1
Download the installer from the ReportForge page.
2
Run the installer. Follow the setup wizard to install ReportForge. The default location is C:\Program Files\BoringWorx\ReportForge.
3
Launch ReportForge from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
Chrome download warning

Chrome may flag the installer as a suspicious download because ReportForge is a new application. This is expected and does not indicate a security risk. Click the arrow on the download bar and choose Keep to save the file.

SmartScreen warning

When you run the installer, Windows may show a "Windows protected your PC" warning. Click More info, then click Run anyway to proceed. This warning disappears as more users install the application.

First launch

When you open ReportForge for the first time, a welcome screen walks you through the basics:

  • 14-day Pro trial starts automatically. All features are unlocked — unlimited templates, scheduling, PDF export — with no credit card required.
  • Sample files are bundled with the installer: a Monthly Sales Summary template and a matching CSV data file. You can use these to try generating a report immediately.

From the welcome screen, click Try a Sample Report to import the sample files automatically, or click Get Started to begin with your own files.

Your first report

Follow these steps to generate your first report using the bundled sample files:

1
Go to Templates (Ctrl+1). Click Import and select the sample template file Monthly_Sales_Summary.xlsx. ReportForge scans the file and detects all {{placeholder}} markers.
2
Go to Data Sources (Ctrl+2). Click Import and select the sample data file Monthly_Sales_Data.csv.
3
Go to Mappings (Ctrl+3). Click New Mapping (Ctrl+N). Select your template and data source. ReportForge automatically matches CSV column headers to template placeholders.
4
Click Generate (Ctrl+G). ReportForge creates the report using your template formatting and data values.
5
Find your report in the output folder. By default, this is Documents\ReportForge\Output. You can change this in Settings.
Tip

If you clicked Try a Sample Report on the welcome screen, steps 1–3 are done for you — just click Generate.
